Project “Enhancing Youth Entrepreneurial and Employment Potential through Networking and Capacity Building (Start-Up Academy Bulgaria - Macedonia)” is a 15 month initiative of Tourist Union – Strumitsa (Lead partner) and Association Business Information and Consulting Center – Sandanski aimed to improve the business competitiveness regional business environment in the cross-border area of Bulgaria and Macedonia through the development of youth entrepreneurship.

The absence of life experience of young entrepreneurs, along with some deficiencies related to their education and social environment determine to a large extent their lack of qualifications and experience as well as low capacity for cooperation and development. Addressing these challenges properly will have a long term effect and will lay the foundations for building an inclusive environment for young entrepreneurs and business enthusiasts.
In this regards as part of the project a research and analysis of the existing environment in the cross-border area in relation to development of youth entrepreneurship will be implemented at the initial stages of project implementation. The research results will provide valuable information about the needs, possibilities and limitations for developing and supporting young entrepreneurs in the region. The conclusions from the survey will be used for determination of concrete measures and activities for support in short and long-term plan.
As part of the project a joint and comprehensive capacity building and networking programme titled “Start-up Academy Bulgaria – Macedonia” will be implemented in three main phases – Phase 1 (CBP A.4), Phase 2 (Open Start-up Lab A.11), Phase 3 (Final Conference, A.12) . It will equip young people with the basic set of skills, knowledge and motivation necessary for the development and realization of their business ideas and entrepreneurship potential. The on-going consulting and mentoring support which will be provided throughout the project will have a strong effect on the opportunities of young entrepreneurs to successfully develop and manage their business.
On a broader scope the StartUp Academy as being a capacity building and networking experience for young people will provide young people with new employment opportunities that will benefit the CB communities by reducing unemployment, brain drain and out-migration.
